Emperor Aurelian (270-275) also renewed the financial system of the Roman Empire. It increased the value and confidence of money by centralizing coinage and combating counterfeiting. In addition to the emperor's portrait, the coins often featured the Sun God, Sol Invictus, the patron saint of the empire. Aurelian also persecuted Christians and glorified pagan gods on coins. The emperor's coinage also influenced the new states of Eastern Europe, such as the Hungarians, who in the 10th-11th centuries century they started minting their own coins.
